Dominique Laurence

Dominique Laurence is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The University of Manchester. He holds the Chair of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and previously led the Thermo-Fluid Division at UMIST. With a background from École des Ponts ParisTech, he specialized in hydraulics and turbulence modeling during his tenure at EDF R&D. His research focuses on advanced CFD methods for nuclear thermal-hydraulics, turbulence simulation (LES/RANS), and gridless methods like SPH. He leads the Fluids Research Group and collaborates on EU/national projects.

Research interests include heat transfer in power plants, aerodynamics of vehicles/buildings, high-fidelity turbulence modeling, and CFD code development for industrial applications. His work addresses challenges in nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics and flow-accelerated corrosion in lead-cooled systems.

Recent projects include RANS/LES validation methods for aerodynamics (2012–2018) and ongoing Fluids Research Group activities. He contributes to datasets like DNS of jet-in-crossflow and conjugate heat transfer studies. Supervised 21 students and maintains active collaborations across Europe.
