Prof. Dominik Grimm is a Professor of Bioinformatics at TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability, part of the Technical University of Munich. His research focuses on applying machine learning and statistical methods to understand complex biological systems, including genotype-phenotype relationships and image-based phenotyping. He leads a lab developing AI solutions for life sciences and chemistry without domain-specific prior knowledge.
Education: B.Sc. in Bioinformatics from Weihenstephan-Triesdorf UAS (2011), Ph.D. from Max Planck Institute and University of Tübingen (2015). Postdoc at ETH Zurich (2016), then industry experience before becoming a professor in 2018. Current roles include Director of the HSWT site for sustainable resource use at TUM Campus Straubing (since 2023) and member of the ELLIS Society (since 2023).
Research interests span bioinformatics, machine learning applications in genetics, precision medicine, and precision agriculture. His methods address challenges in GWAS, image analysis for crop science, and AI-driven drug discovery.
Key awards include two Student Council Awards for teaching excellence (2020, 2021). His lab collaborates with institutions like the European Bioinformatics Institute and University of Cambridge, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to solving biological problems.
