Dominik Burkhalter

Dominik Burkhalter serves as a Professor of Rhythm and Drums at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), specifically within the School of Music's Institute for Jazz and Folk Music. A Swiss drummer and composer renowned across Europe for his technical precision and genre-defying artistry, he bridges jazz tradition with modern electronic elements.

His research and creative practice centers on Jazz, Contemporary Music, and Drumming techniques, emphasizing rhythmic innovation beyond conventional boundaries. Burkhalter’s work integrates Swiss-clockwork precision with breakbeats and grooves, reflecting a modernist approach that rejects categorization while maintaining intellectual depth.

As an active performer, he tours internationally with Swiss pop icon BLIGG and has collaborated with luminaries including Meshell Ndegeocello, Billy Cobham, and Ambrose Akinmusire. He operates his own production studio, creating tracks for Berlin Lama—a 'Producer Project' yielding the 2017 EP 'Ego' and 2018 album '80 BMX'—while mentoring students in jazz and folk music pedagogy.
