Domenico Longo is an Assistant Professor at the University of Catania, affiliated with the College of Engineering and the Department of Mechanics and Mechanisation. His research focuses on agricultural machinery design, mechatronics, biosensors, and environmental monitoring systems, with a strong emphasis on robotics and automation. He has extensive experience in developing climbing robots for industrial inspection, non-linear modeling, and control algorithms, and currently works on precision farming technologies, bio-sensors, and pesticide distribution analysis.
- Research Highlights: Development of UV-C spectrophotometers for SO2 measurement, low-cost CO2 flux detection methods, and robotic platforms for volcanic and agronomic monitoring.
- Collaborations: Active partnerships with INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology), CNR-IMM (National Research Council - Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems), and DIEEI (Department of Electronic, Electrical and Computer Engineering).
- Teaching: Responsible for courses in Machinery and Systems for Biotechnology, with office hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays (11:00–13:00) and MS Teams code sfxzck3 for virtual meetings.
