Dmitry Savransky is an Associate Professor at Cornell University's Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He holds affiliations with multiple graduate fields including Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy and Space Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, and Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Professor Savransky received his PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and was previously a postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
His research focuses on the detection and characterization of extrasolar planets through investigations in advanced control systems for wavefront control, computer vision applications for optical alignment, autonomous observatory scheduling, and statistical analysis of astronomical surveys. Key technical areas include machine learning applications in astronomy, image processing techniques for high-contrast imaging, and optimization methods for space-based observations.
Analysis of recent publications shows a consistent focus on exoplanet detection technologies with particular emphasis on: (1) advanced instrumentation development for next-generation telescopes, (2) optimization of space mission trajectories and operations, (3) computational methods for astronomical data analysis, and (4) novel approaches to exoplanet characterization. The research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between astrophysics, aerospace engineering, and computational science.
