Prof. Dr. Dmitrij Frischman is a Professor of Bioinformatics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), affiliated with the TUM School of Life Sciences and the Department of Bioinformatics. His research focuses on bioinformatics algorithms for structural genomics, proteomics, and viral/cancer research. He holds a Humboldt Fellowship and has contributed to foundational work in protein structure analysis.
Education:
- M.S. in Electrophysics, St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University (1984)
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences (1991)
Research Interests: Genome analysis, bioinformatics of viruses, protein interaction prediction, disease informatics, protein structure analysis, and mRNA evolution. His work emphasizes transmembrane proteins and their evolutionary dynamics.
Publications: Recent articles explore polyproline motifs in E. coli, membrane protein interactions, and bioinformatics tools like PEDANT. His work bridges computational methods with biological systems, addressing structural and functional questions in genomics.
Awards:
- Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (1992–1993)
Teaching & Professional Service: Teaches courses in structural bioinformatics and genome analysis. Serves on editorial boards for Bioinformatics, Biology Direct, and OMICS. Actively contributes to conferences like the German Conference on Bioinformatics and the Pacific Symposium on Bioinformatics.
Labs & Teams: Leads a research group at TUM Weihenstephan, with a focus on collaborative projects in computational biology and bioinformatics.
