Dirk Vom Lehn is a Professor of Organisation & Practice at King’s Business School, King’s College London. He serves as Programme Director for the BSc International Management and is a member of the Public Services Management & Organisation (PSMO) and the Work, Interaction and Technology Research Group. His research focuses on ethnomethodological analysis of interaction, technology in social practices, and institutional work in museums, healthcare, and street markets. He has authored and edited over 10 books and is an Associate Editor of Symbolic Interaction.
Dirk’s research explores how interaction and technology shape social organization, including studies of museum visitor behavior, optometric consultations, and street-market bargaining. He emphasizes the role of video-based methods in capturing detailed interactional practices. His recent work addresses digitalization in retail, communication training in optometry, and the experiential dimensions of art consumption.
He teaches modules on marketing, technology, and qualitative research methods at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Dirk is actively involved in editorial roles for journals such as Arts and the Market and the Journal of Organizational Ethnography.
His Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 impact case study, Developing New Training to Improve Communication in Optometry, highlights applied contributions to healthcare communication. Dirk collaborates with institutions like the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) on urban market studies and PhD supervision.
