Dirk Vandepitte is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering Science, KU Leuven, specializing in Mechanical Engineering. He leads the Mecha(tro)nic System Dynamics (LMSD) research unit and chairs the Leuven Centre for Aero & Space Science, Technology and Applications. He actively participates in interdisciplinary councils and committees.
Research Interests include:
- Finite element modelling with uncertain parameters
- Structural dynamics and numerical simulation
- Design of lightweight and composite structures
- Spacecraft structural analysis and sensor fusion
- Hydrogen storage reliability and corrosion modelling
Teaching involves courses like Engineering Design of Space Missions, Reliability of Mechanical Systems, and Applied Mechanics. His affiliations span the Lightweight Structures Research Group, Noise and Vibration Research Group, and leadership roles in space technology councils.
