Dirk J. Broer

Dirk J. Broer is a Full Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). He chairs the research group Functional Organic Materials and Devices, focusing on polymer structuring, self-organizing networks, and stimuli-responsive materials. His work spans sustainable energy, healthcare, and nanotechnology, integrating molecular synthesis with device prototyping.

Academic Background: Broer joined Philips Research in 1973, later conducting research at DuPont (1990/1991). He earned his PhD from Groningen University in 1990 on liquid-crystalline acrylates. At Philips, he advanced LCD technologies and biomedical devices. Since 1996, he has held a part-time (until 2010) and full-time (2010–present) professorship at TU/e. He is also a Distinguished Professor at South China Normal University.
