Dirk Heinz

Dirk Heinz is a Professor of Structural Biology at the Technical University of Braunschweig and Head of the Department of Molecular Structural Biology at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI). He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Würzburg and is an EMBO member. His academic journey includes chemistry studies at the University of Freiburg, a doctorate in structural biology from the University of Basel, postdoctoral research at the University of Oregon, and habilitation in Freiburg.

His research focuses on structural mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis, enzyme function in infection processes, and biomolecular interactions. Key areas include:

• Enzyme mechanisms in lipid homeostasis and cofactor biosynthesis
• Host-pathogen interaction pathways
