معرفی
Dirk Albrecht is an Associate Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), with an affiliation to the Biology & Biotechnology Department. His research integrates microtechnology and neuroscience to develop quantitative tools for studying neural circuits and behavior, particularly in the context of neuropsychiatric disorders. He leads the Quantitative Neurotechnology Lab, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches that combine engineering, genetics, and computational modeling.
- BS (1997) and PhD (2005) in Bioengineering from UC San Diego
- Postdoctoral training (2007-2012) in Neural Circuits and Behavior at Rockefeller University
Research interests span microtechnology, neural dynamics, quantitative systems biology, and high-throughput genetic/chemical screening, with applications to epilepsy, autism, and Alzheimer’s disease. His lab develops tools for in vivo neuronal imaging using C. elegans, translating findings to clinical solutions.
Recent publications highlight innovations in hydrogel encapsulation, light sheet microscopy, and automated sleep state analysis. His work has been recognized with the Nature Communications Biology First Anniversary Collection selection and the Romeo L. Moruzzi Young Faculty Award.
Scientific contributions include mentoring students like PhD candidates Daniel Lawler, Kyra Burnett, and Ross Lagoy, who received awards for presentation excellence. Funding sources include the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, National Science Foundation, and National Institutes of Health.
