Dr. Dionysios Demetis is a Professor and Reader in Information Systems at the Hull University Business School, leading the Logistics & Management Systems group. He holds a PhD in anti-money laundering (AML) and information systems from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His research focuses on cybersecurity, cybercrime, systems theory, and 2nd-order cybernetics. He is a Senior Editor at the Journal of Information Systems Security and Vice-Chair of the Humber Business Resilience Forum, promoting cybersecurity in the Humber region.
Dr. Demetis has authored two books and numerous publications, including Technology and Anti-Money Laundering (2010) and The Technological Construction of Reality (2024). His work on AML has been featured in the UN bibliography and funded by the European Commission. He has received prestigious awards, including the Best Paper Award from the Journal of the Association for Information Systems (2021) and the AIS Best Information Systems Publication Award (2022).
His current research projects include grants from DEFRA, the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council, and the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council, focusing on systems thinking, circular economy models, and net-zero logistics innovation. He supervises PhD students in AML, information systems, and cybersecurity from a social science perspective.
