Diniz (Dennis) Borges is a Lecturer at the Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures department within the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno. His work focuses on Portuguese-American and Azorean literature, identity, and cultural preservation, with a particular emphasis on diaspora communities in California.

Borges has served as the Founding Director of the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute since 2018, contributing to transatlantic cultural dialogue. His professional roles include Chair of the World Languages Department at Tulare Union High School (retired in 2018), Summer Intensive Institute instructor at CSU Stanislaus, and adjunct faculty at College of the Sequoias since 2001.
His research explores Portuguese-American identity, Azorean literature, media representation, and cultural traditions in diaspora communities. Recent publications include bilingual poetry anthologies and translations addressing Azorean emigration and cultural memory, such as Into the Azorean Sea (2023) and Through the Walls of Solitude (2023).
Borges’ translations and anthologies, including Calligraphy of the Birds (2022) and A Love Story (2020), highlight intergenerational narratives and the emotional legacy of migration. He has also co-translated historical and literary works documenting Portuguese-American experiences in California.
