Dina Avery

Dr. Dina Avery is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Health Professions, where she directs the Biotechnology Program as its first African American faculty member. She also serves as Associate Scientist at the UAB Minority Health & Health Equity Research Center and UAB Social Science and Justice Research Center.

Her research focuses on clinical research infrastructure development, particularly biobanking systems, health disparities in oncology and preventive medicine, and community-based participatory research with underserved populations in Alabama's Black Belt. She has pioneered enhanced bio-banking processes at Emory University's Glenn Family Breast Center and now consults internationally on best practices.

Dr. Avery's publications demonstrate expertise in neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, oncology research, and age-related macular degeneration pathology. She combines technical biochemistry research with community engagement initiatives, emphasizing equitable healthcare solutions and ethical research practices.
