Dimitrios Zevgolis is a Full Professor at the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland. He directs the Regenerative, Modular & Developmental Engineering Laboratory (REMODEL), focusing on biomaterials, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. His roles include Editor-in-Chief of Biomaterials and Biosystems (Elsevier), Irish Ambassador for the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS), and leadership in organizations like TERMIS and Matrix Biology Ireland (MBI). He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, 400 conference papers, and 15 book chapters, with editorial roles across 10 journals and reviewing for 130 journals and 30 funding agencies. His research spans biomaterials development, cell-based therapies, in vitro models for drug discovery, and cellular agriculture. He secured 2 patents, founded 2 companies, and advised over 25 conferences. He coordinates the Biomaterials module and supervises numerous PhD students.
Education: PhD from University of Northampton.
Research Interests: Biomaterials for healthcare and food security, organotypic cancer models, cellular agriculture, and ex vivo cell propagation tools. Recent work emphasizes macromolecular crowding in enhancing extracellular matrix deposition and accelerating tissue engineering processes.
Grants & Industry Collaboration: Conducted research for 40+ companies, contributing to product development and commercialization in medical devices and food sectors. His lab's outputs bridge academia and industry, addressing translational challenges in regenerative medicine.
Labs & Teams: REMODEL lab is a multidisciplinary hub advancing biomaterials, cellular therapies, and food security solutions through intersectoral collaboration.
