Dimitra Voutyrea

Dimitra Voutyrea is a Researcher and Doctoral Student in the Research Group »Object Itineraries« at the Austrian Archaeological Institute (OeAI), part of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, based in Athens. She has served as scientific staff since 2016, conducting terrestrial and underwater excavations across Greece and Southern France, with additional roles in archaeological supervision (since 2020) and ceramic research for the French Ministry of Culture (since 2021).

Her academic background includes:

• Degree in History and Archaeology, specializing in Archaeology and Art History, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
• Master's degree in Maritime and Coastal Archaeology from Aix-Marseille University under the A*Midex Initiative of Excellence

Her research centers on Late Antique-Early Byzantine material culture, maritime trade networks, and ceramic analysis, exemplified by her project »Crossing the Sea: Pottery from Asia Minor in Athens« which investigates ancient trade routes through pottery typology and distribution patterns.
