معرفی
Prof. Dr. Dieter Willbold serves as Director of the Institute for Physical Biology at Heinrich-Heine-University. His research focuses on understanding protein interactions and three-dimensional structures in cellular processes, particularly their role in neurodegenerative diseases and aging.
Research Focus: Investigating amyloid-type protein aggregation and prion-like properties, with a primary emphasis on Alzheimer's disease. His team develops novel diagnostic methods and disease-modifying therapeutics targeting misfolded protein assemblies.
Scientific Achievements: Developed PRI-002 (alias RD2), a BBB-penetrable anti-prionic compound showing cognitive improvement in multiple transgenic AD mouse models and aged beagle dogs. The compound demonstrated successful proof-of-concept in phase I clinical trials.
Publication Trends: Recent work spans cryo-electron microscopy of amyloid fibrils, structural comparisons across species, quantitative detection methods for protein aggregates, and drug development for neurodegenerative diseases.
Collaborations: Affiliated with the Institute of Biological Information Processing (IBI-7) at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Manchot Graduate School, CLIB-Cluster Industrial Biotechnology, and iGRASPseed Graduate School.
