Dieter Kienast

Dieter Kienast (1945–1998) was a renowned Professor of Landscape Architecture, holding positions at the Intercantonal Technical College Rapperswil (1981–1991), University of Karlsruhe (1992–1997), and ETH Zurich (1997–1998). His work focused on integrating ecological and artistic dimensions into urban and landscape design.

Education: Studied at Gesamthochschule Kassel (1970–1975), completing a doctoral thesis on the sociology of plants in urban environments.

Research & Projects: Pioneered projects such as the City Park in Sankt Gallen (1987–1993), the ZKM Center for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe (1995–1997), and collaborations with architects like Herzog & De Meuron. His legacy is explored in ETH Zurich's research project Grey and Green: Dieter Kienast's Contribution to Landscape Architecture (supervised by Christophe Girot and Arthur Rüegg).
