Diego Restuccia is a Professor of Economics and Canada Research Chair in Macroeconomics and Productivity at the University of Toronto's Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts & Science. He holds Research Associate positions at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and Theoretical Research in Development Economics (ThReD). His research focuses on macroeconomics, development, and labor economics, particularly exploring income disparities across countries through the lens of resource allocation inefficiencies in capital and labor. Restuccia's work has been published in top journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics and Econometrica.
Education: PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota (1998) and an undergraduate degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Venezuela). Born in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Research Interests: Macroeconomic productivity, structural transformation, agricultural productivity, and the role of institutions in economic development. Recent projects include analyzing land security frictions, employer/nonemployer firm dynamics, and misallocation in agriculture.
