Diego Restrepo

Diego Restrepo is a Professor and Co-Director of the Center for Neuroscience (CNS) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, affiliated with the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology. His research employs electrophysiology, optogenetics, microscopy, and computational modeling to investigate decision-making circuits, sensory processing in olfactory/hippocampal systems, and neurodegenerative mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease. He collaborates with virologists to explore links between herpesviruses and Alzheimer’s pathology.

Research Focus: Neural circuit dynamics of associative learning; olfactory coding; cerebellar valence encoding; viral-induced neurodegeneration; development of miniaturized neuroimaging tools (e.g., fiber-coupled microscopes).

Lab Culture: Trainees lead independent projects using cutting-edge techniques (e.g., spatial transcriptomics, holographic photostimulation). Restrepo advocates for diversity and inclusion through university/ACS initiatives.
