Diego Caetano

Diego Caetano is an Assistant Professor of Piano at Sam Houston State University's School of Music and a Shigeru Kawai Artist. The Brazilian-American pianist maintains an active global career as performer, educator, and artistic director.

Research Interests: Caetano specializes in Piano Performance with emphasis on Contemporary Music, Chamber Music, and Brazilian repertoire. His scholarly work explores pedagogical techniques for Brazilian compositions, performance anxiety management, and effective practicing methodologies. As an advocate for new music, he has premiered works by Robert Spillman, Anne Guzzo, and Marlos Nobre while maintaining deep expertise in 20th-century French violin sonatas through his Duo Lispector recordings.

Advising and Professional Activities: His students consistently win national and international competition prizes. Caetano co-founded and directs the Ávila International Music Festival in Spain, served as President of the World Piano Teachers Association - Texas Chapter (2016-2021), and frequently presents at conferences on performance pedagogy. He maintains dual performance careers through Duo Lispector (with violinist Evgeny Zvonnikov) and Resch-Caetano Duo (with tenor Richard Resch), recently releasing "French Connection: Violin Sonatas of the 20th Century" on DaVinci Classics.

Ensembles: As co-founder of Duo Lispector, he explores cross-cultural chamber repertoire while directing the Ávila International Music Festival to promote emerging artists. His collaborations span five continents with recent performances at Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and Sala Cecília Meireles.
