Diego Alburez-Gutierrez

Diego Alburez-Gutierrez is a Researcher and leader of the Independent Research Group on Kinship Inequalities at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Germany. He holds a PhD in Demography and Population Studies (2018) and MSc in Social Research Methods (2014) from the London School of Economics (LSE). His work focuses on kinship dynamics, intergenerational processes, and the demographic impacts of conflict and mortality. Notably awarded the Otto Hahn Medal (2019), European Demographer Award (2023), and IUSSP Early Career Award (2024), his research bridges formal demography with empirical data.

Key projects include analyzing kinship structures in post-conflict societies, global projections of kinship availability, and the demographic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
