Didier Mazel is a Professor at the Institut Pasteur since 2012, leading the Bacterial Genome Plasticity Unité. He served as Director of the Genomes and Genetics department (2009-2019) and currently holds the Deputy Director role for Scientific Assessment at the institute.
- HDR (University Denis Diderot - Paris 7, 2000)
- PhD in Molecular and Cellular Genetics (University Pierre & Marie Curie - Paris 6, 1990)
His research focuses on mobile genetic elements, horizontal gene transfer, and antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Recent publications highlight his work on integron dynamics, bacterial genome stability, and synthetic antimicrobial design.
Key publication trends:
- Advancing understanding of integron systems in bacterial evolution
- Investigating chromosomal replication control in multichromosomal bacteria
- Developing computational and synthetic biology tools for genetic research
- Exploring molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance
Scientific honors include:
- Elected to the European Academy of Microbiology (2017)
- Recipient of the Louis Pasteur Chair of Excellence (2016)
- Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (2014)
- Pasteur Vallery-Radot Award (2010)
- Jean Pierre Lecocq Prize (2006)
Mazel serves as Chairman of the scientific council at IRT BIOASTER since 2018 and has been a member of Faculty Opinions (formerly F1000) and IFREMER's scientific council (2007-2013). He directed the MOOC 'Resistance to Antimicrobial Agents' (2018) and the Genome Analysis Course at Institut Pasteur (2015).
