Dick Ellis is a Visiting Professor of Cultural History at the University of Chichester. Previously, he held leadership roles including Head of the Department of American and Canadian Studies at the University of Birmingham (2006–2010) and Course Leader for the MA in English Studies at Nottingham Trent University (1998–1999). He has extensive administrative experience, including Research Director roles at Birmingham (2004–2015) and Research Leader at Nottingham Trent (1997–2004), where he achieved an RAE 5 rating in 2001.
His academic affiliations include memberships in prominent organizations such as the European Beat Studies Network (Executive Board, 2015–present), the Society for the Study of American Women Writers (President, 2014–2015), and the British Association for American Studies (BAAS Executive Committee, 2007–2015). He is also a Fellow of the English Association since 2002.
Educated at Exeter University, Ellis holds a B.A.(Hons) (1971) and Ph.D. (1977). His research interests span American Studies, cultural history, and gender studies, with a focus on 20th-century literature and interdisciplinary cultural analysis.
