معرفی
Professor Diane McDougald is a leading researcher in microbial ecology and evolution at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), specifically within the Australian Institute for Microbiology & Infection. She holds a Professorship in the Faculty of Science and leads the Microbial Ecology and Evolution research group. Her work focuses on bacterial adaptation mechanisms, particularly in Vibrio species, biofilm formation, and interactions between bacteria and higher organisms like corals and protozoa. Prof. McDougald has held significant roles, including leading the Marine Health and Biotechnology Program at Nanyang Technological University (2009–2021) and contributing to the Biofilm Fundamentals Program in the Environmental Biotechnology Cooperative Research Centre. She has supervised PhD students now working in academia and industry.
Her research spans over 20 years, emphasizing survival mechanisms of pathogens in environmental reservoirs and the impact of microbial interactions on coral health. Key contributions include elucidating how biofilms protect bacteria from protistan grazing and how Vibrio species adapt to environmental stress. McDougald’s work bridges fundamental microbial ecology with applied biotechnology, addressing challenges in water treatment and marine ecosystem health.
Publications highlight her expertise in biofilm dynamics, coral-macroalgal interactions, and the role of protozoa in shaping bacterial virulence. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates genomic analysis, ecological modeling, and field studies to address global challenges in microbiology and environmental science.
