Diane M Valentin serves as an Instructor and Director of the Medical Laboratory Science Program within the Department of Biology at Saint Joseph's University. Transitioning to academia in 2016 at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (which merged with Saint Joseph's in 2022), she assumed program directorship in 2019 while maintaining her faculty role. A distinguished alumnus of the program she now leads, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of the Sciences.
Her educational foundation includes:
- Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics (Bioinformatics focus) from Rutgers University (2019)
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (1999)
- Certificate in Molecular Laboratory Diagnostics from Michigan State University (2012)
Professor Valentin's expertise centers on Medical Laboratory Science with specialized focus in Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics. She actively champions the critical role of laboratory testing in healthcare decision-making, citing that 70% of medical choices rely on laboratory data (ASCLS, 2024). Her professional work integrates hands-on diagnostic development with educational leadership, particularly in molecular assay validation for HPV and Hepatitis C testing protocols that directly impact patient treatment pathways.
Certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as both a Medical Technologist and Molecular Biology Technologist, she maintains active involvement in the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) and its Pennsylvania chapter. Her leadership emphasizes translating clinical laboratory experience into rigorous academic training while advocating for workforce development through initiatives like the ASCLS-endorsed personnel supply bill.
