Diane Kuehn

Dr. Diane Kuehn is an Emeritus Associate Professor in the Department of Sustainable Resources Management at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). She specializes in recreation resources management, ecotourism, nature tourism, environmental education, and wildlife-related recreation. Her teaching includes courses such as Ecotourism Abroad (FOR 404), Recreation Behavior and Management (FOR 475), and an Environmental Career Strategies seminar for women (FOR 496-10/797-02). She holds a Ph.D. in Recreation and Tourism from SUNY CESF (2002).

Her research focuses on recreational behavior analysis, conservation easements, and stakeholder perceptions in natural resource management. She has led service-learning projects involving community-based tourism and recreation planning across New York’s Adirondack region and Lake Ontario areas. Current advisee: Akosua Asabere (PhD in FRM Natural Resources Mgt).

Key projects include evaluating maple producers’ climate adaptation strategies, analyzing boating stakeholder perceptions in Saranac Lakes, and developing tourism plans for parks and protected areas. She has supervised capstone projects on topics like Tamarisk management in Peru and environmental remediation recreation opportunities.

Labs/Teams: Involved in ESF’s FOR 476 service-learning program, which partners with communities to create recreation management plans. Active in the Northeastern Recreation Research Symposium and NY Sea Grant initiatives.
