Diane Bailey is the Geri Gay Professor of Communication at Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), Department of Communication. Her research focuses on the sociotechnical dynamics of technology adoption in workplaces, emphasizing how technologies reshape work practices, occupational identities, and global labor divisions. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley (1994), alongside earlier degrees from the same institution.
Her work spans topics like AI implementation, precision agriculture, ICT4E (Information and Communication Technologies in Education), and global offshoring. Notable projects include studies on Brazilian banking systems, automotive engineering collaboration, and digital agriculture. Bailey has received prestigious awards such as the Academy of Management Discoveries Best Article Award (2017) and the NSF CAREER Award (1997).
Teaching includes undergraduate courses on visual communication and graduate seminars on organizational ethnography. Recent research highlights include exploring farmers' data practices in digital agriculture and addressing ethical challenges in AI-driven decision-making.
