Diana Sanchez

Diana Sanchez is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Psychology at Rutgers University, part of the School of Arts and Sciences. She holds affiliations with the Health Psychology program, the Health Institute, the Race and Ethnicity Center, and the Women’s Studies Department. Her research focuses on racial identity, gender roles in close relationships, and stigma, with a particular emphasis on multiracial identity fluidity and the societal implications of gender ideals.

Since earning her PhD in Social Psychology and Women’s Studies from the University of Michigan in 2005, she has led the Close Relationships, Identity, and Stigma (CRIS) Lab, supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, and Spencer Foundation. Her work addresses topics like the orgasm gap, stigmatization in romantic relationships, and the psychological effects of racial and gender identity.

Dr. Sanchez has been recognized with awards including the SESP Mid-Career Award and election as SPSP President (2025). She is a leading advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, spearheading initiatives such as the Race, Racism, and Intersecting Inequality Diversity Cluster at Rutgers. Her mentorship has supported numerous students from underrepresented groups, with over 13 honors thesis students and 9 doctoral graduates in her lab.
