Her research focuses on climate adaptation and mitigation in urban contexts, including socio-economic vulnerabilities, adaptation synergies, and climate migration. Methodologically, she develops tools like Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping (FCM) to integrate qualitative stakeholder insights with quantitative models. Current projects include HABITABLE (climate migration scenarios), RiskPACC (disaster resilience through citizen engagement), LOCALISED (European Green Deal support), and EURO-LCP Initiative (European urban climate plans analysis). She leads teams as Co-PI or Coordinator, collaborating with institutions like IHS Rotterdam and ALGA. Teaching responsibilities include courses on global challenges, local climate planning, and risk-sensitive urban design.
Reckien has received the José María Sarriegi Major Catastrophe Research Award (2019). Her research outputs include over 70 peer-reviewed articles and special issues on climate decision-making, climate change simulation/gaming, and geo-information tools. She advises PhD students and contributes to global climate policy assessments, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches and policy-relevant outcomes.
