Diana Poudel is a Junior Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Tartu, where she has been working since August 2022 on a fixed-term contract through August 2026. She is currently pursuing her PhD under the supervision of Maria Murumaa-Mengel with research focused on advancing societal resilience through community networks in the context of psychological information operations.
Her educational background includes a Master's degree in Communication Management (2017-2019) and a Bachelor's degree in Business and Project Management (2015-2017), both from the University of Tartu. Her Master's thesis, "Clash of Hackers: Creating an Educational Board Game for Teaching Digital Literacies," earned her the Tartu city's annual youth work themed student work award in 2019.
Diana's research interests center on communication and information sciences, with particular focus on digital literacy, media studies, information operations, societal resilience, and cybersecurity education. Her work bridges theoretical research with practical applications, especially in developing educational tools to combat disinformation and enhance digital citizenship.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent work in the field of digital literacy and information security, with a notable trend toward examining societal resilience against information operations. Diana has served as principal investigator for the "Social media piercing model" project (2022) funded by The State Chancellery with 18,667 EUR, and is currently part of the research team for the larger project "Reinforcing Societal Resilience through Securitization" (2025-2029) funded by the Estonian Research Council with 269,388 EUR. Her research combines theoretical frameworks with practical interventions to build societal resilience against information threats.
