Diamando Afxentiou is a Professor and Director of the BSBA Program in the Department of Economics at New York Institute of Technology. She has been affiliated with the university since 1990, teaching courses such as Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, and Managerial Economics across Long Island and New York City campuses.

Her research focuses on Labor Economics and Public Policy, with significant contributions to understanding wage polarization, teenage pregnancy economics, and the economic returns of education. Recent projects include comparative panel analyses on rent subsidy effects in public housing.
Afxentiou's research has been supported by a National Science Foundation Grant and has influenced academic discourse through publications in journals like the Journal of Family and Economic Issues and Journal of Business and Economic Studies. She serves as Associate Dean of the School of Management (since 2007), overseeing student affairs, curriculum development, and academic assessments.
