Dr. Di Yang is an Associate Professor of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Houston, affiliated with the Cullen College of Engineering. He serves as Associate Department Chair and leads the Computational Fluid Dynamics and Turbulence Modeling Group.
His research focuses on:
- Computational fluid dynamics (DNS/LES) for turbulent and multi-phase flows
- Boundary layer dynamics over complex surfaces
- Subgrid-scale modeling in geophysical flows
- Sustainable energy systems (wind/wave/tidal energy)
- Environmental fluid mechanics (oil spill dispersion)
- Ocean optics and light propagation modeling
Recent publications emphasize wind turbine aerodynamics and environmental fluid dynamics. Awards include the W. T. Kittinger Teaching Excellence Award (2021) and Andrea Prosperetti Research Computing Faculty Award (2020).
He has taught Introduction to Fluid Mechanics (MECE 3363) and Fluid Dynamics 1 (MECE 6345) consistently since 2015.
