Devin C. Koestler is a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics & Data Science at the University of Kansas Medical Center. His research focuses on developing statistical and bioinformatics methods to analyze high-dimensional genomic data, particularly in cancer and epigenetics. He holds a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Brown University (2011), a postdoc in Quantitative Biosciences in Cancer at Dartmouth College (2013), and a Graduate Certificate in Bioinformatics from Stanford University (2014).
His work emphasizes integrating 'omic data (e.g., DNA methylation, gene expression) to improve cancer prognosis, risk stratification, and understanding biological mechanisms. Notable contributions include methods for clustering genomic data using mixture models and addressing cell-type heterogeneity in blood-based studies. He has been recognized with awards including the ENAR Distinguished Student Paper Award (2011), Frontiers Junior Faculty KL2 Award (2014), and Department of Biostatistics Outstanding Teacher Award (2015).
Dr. Koestler has authored over 15 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, with a focus on oncology, epigenetics, and methodological advancements in genomics. His research has been supported by grants such as the NIH K12 award and University of Kansas Cancer Center pilot grants. He also contributes to academic editing (e.g., PLoS One) and mentorship in statistical methodology.
