Professor Dermot Brougham is a leading researcher at the School of Chemistry, University College Dublin, with expertise in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and magnetic nanomaterials. His academic journey includes postdoctoral work at Queen Mary University of London and the University of Nottingham, followed by academic positions at Dublin City University's School of Chemical Sciences before joining UCD in 2016.
His research focuses on NMR methods to study structure-dynamics relationships in:
- Magnetic nanoparticles
- Soft matter systems (hydrogels, lipid membranes)
- Condensed matter physics
Recent publications highlight his work on:
- Thermoresponsive hydrogels for spinal cord injury treatment
- Size-dependent magnetoliposome behavior in pancreatic cancer models
