Derfogail Delcassian

Derfogail Delcassian serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Her office is located in 281 Hearst Memorial Mining Building with office hours held Tuesdays from 2:00-3:30 pm.

Her research program focuses on immunoengineering technologies to direct immune cell function, with core expertise in Biomaterials & Nanotechnology and Cell and Tissue Engineering. The laboratory develops artificial lymph nodes, mRNA vaccines, and 3D printed interfaces to study and control immune responses, targeting applications in cancer therapy, transplant tolerance, spaceflight adaptation, and autoimmune disease management. This work bridges advanced biomaterials design with immunological principles to create translational medical solutions.

Dr. Delcassian's technological approaches demonstrate significant potential for manipulating immune behavior in clinically relevant contexts, particularly through engineered microenvironments that mimic lymphoid structures.
