Derek Huntley serves as a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Life Sciences within Imperial College London's Faculty of Natural Sciences, based at the Sir Ernst Chain Building on South Kensington Campus. He maintains dual affiliations with the Bioinformatics Data Science Group and Integrative Systems Biology research unit, contributing to cross-disciplinary academic initiatives.
His research portfolio spans Genetics, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Oncology and Carcinogenesis, Public Health and Health Services, Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology, with emphasis on bioinformatics applications in systems biology. This work integrates computational approaches to analyze complex biological datasets across health and environmental domains.
Huntley convenes the Biochemistry second year stream, Genes and Genomics module, and second-year tutored dissertation program. He delivers lectures across Proteins and Enzymes (Year 1), Fundamentals of Molecular Biochemistry (Year 2), and Bioinformatics (Year 3), while teaching MSc courses in Bioinformatics and Theoretical Systems Biology, Applied Biosciences & Biotechnology, Human Molecular Genetics, and Genomic Medicine.
