Derek Breid is an Associate Professor and Department Chair at Saint Vincent College’s Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing. He joined in 2014 as one of the founding faculty for the institution’s four-year Engineering degree program.
- PhD and MS in Polymer Science and Engineering from University of Massachusetts
- BS in Chemical Engineering from University of Kansas
Dr. Breid’s research focuses on responsive smart materials, mechanical instabilities (wrinkling/folding), soft robotics, and bio-inspired structures. He also investigates pedagogical approaches to engineering education, particularly the impact of homework and assessment schemes.
