Derek Barr-Pulliam is an Assistant Professor in the School of Accountancy within the College of Business at the University of Louisville. Prior to joining UofL, he held faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and gained six years of professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
- PhD in Accounting (2014), MA in Accounting (2004), BS in Accounting (2002) from the University of Mississippi
His research integrates psychology and economic theories to analyze judgment and decision-making in auditing. Key themes include:
- Auditors’ interaction with advanced technology and subject matter experts
- Consumer perceptions of audit quality
- Digital transformation in audit practices
- Decision analytics and legal accountability
Recent publications examine AI chatbots in accounting education, juror perceptions of audit negligence, and literature reviews on audit innovation.

- Access to Audit Personnel Grant (2021) by CAQ and AAA
Research Funding includes support from global institutions like KPMG, IAAER, ICAS, and IIA Research Foundation. He has also authored commissioned monographs on auditor knowledge acquisition and serves on editorial boards for Accounting Horizons and Current Issues in Auditing.
