Dennis Shasha is the Julius Silver Professor of Computer Science at New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, where he has served since 1995. His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University (1984), an M.Sc. from Syracuse University (1980), and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Yale University (1977).
Research interests span biological computing, pattern recognition in trees/graphs, time series pattern discovery, cryptographic systems, and database optimization. His interdisciplinary work bridges computer science with biology and mathematics.
Honors include election to the U.S. National Academy of Inventors (2023), ACM SIGMOD Contributions Award (2020), and ACM Fellow (2014). He mentors graduate students in computational biology and data science research.
