Dennis Lehmkuhl is the Chair of Natural Philosophy and Philosophy of Science at the University of Bonn, Germany, and holds the Lichtenberg Professorship for History and Philosophy of Physics. His research focuses on the interplay between theories of gravity, spacetime structure, and matter, with a particular emphasis on integrated history and philosophy of physics. He has extensively analyzed Einstein's interpretation of general relativity, modern debates in spacetime foundations, and the philosophical implications of black hole and gravitational wave physics.
- Education:
- DPhil in Philosophy (2010), Oxford University
- MA in Philosophy (2006), Hamburg University
- MSc in Theoretical Physics (2004), Imperial College London
- BSc in Physics (2003), Hamburg University
- BA in Philosophy (2003), Hamburg University
His recent publications explore the equivalence principle, dark matter vs. modified gravity, and hybrid theories in general relativity. He has served as a Scientific Editor for the Einstein Papers Project and contributed to interdisciplinary dialogues on the ontological status of spacetime. Awards include the Heinrich Hertz Fellowship, and he actively participates in public outreach through lectures and collaborations like the Next Generation Event Horizon Telescope Working Group.
