Dr. Deniz Haydar is an Assistant Professor in Biology Education at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, specializing in the methodology of teaching biology and marine ecology. They hold a PhD in Marine Biology and have contributed extensively to research on invasive species, coastal ecosystems, and interdisciplinary education approaches. Current roles include chairing the biology determination committee for pre-vocational secondary education, membership in the NIBI conference organizing committee, and participation in the KNAW onderwijsprijs selection committee.
Research focuses on bridging marine ecological studies with educational methodologies, particularly in addressing bioinvasions and environmental policy. Key projects include analyzing cryptogenic species distributions and predicting coastal ecosystem invasions. Their work integrates historical perspectives, such as exploring health education through historical contexts. Over 20 years of academic activity includes teaching, policy contributions (e.g., Wadden Sea seal management), and international collaborations in marine conservation.
Publications span peer-reviewed articles in Journal of Experimental Biology and Diversity and Distributions, book chapters on North Sea invasives, and educational publications. Active in teacher training, Haydar advises on STEM education strategies and contributes to curriculum development in biology and health sciences.
