Deniz Bilman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cincinnati, within the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on nonlinear waves, integrable systems, and their perturbations, with a particular emphasis on Riemann-Hilbert problems and dispersive PDEs. He holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2015) and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan (2015–2019).
His work includes groundbreaking studies on rogue waves, soliton theory, and numerical methods for inverse scattering problems. Key contributions include analyses of large-order solitons, far-field asymptotics, and infinite-order rogue wave solutions. He has received prestigious awards such as the 2019 Honored Instructor Award (awarded by students) and the 2017 B. Alan Taylor Award for excellence in teaching and research.
Recent research activities involve computational advancements in soliton gas dynamics, universality in rogue wave phenomena, and collaborations on projects supported by the National Science Foundation and Simons Foundation. He actively participates in academic service, including organizing conferences on nonlinear waves and serving as Secretary for the SIAM Activity Group on Nonlinear Waves and Coherent Structures.
