Dr Denisse Lazo-Gonzalez is a Lecturer in Hispanic Studies at the University of Reading's Department of Languages and Culture, part of the School of Literature and Languages. Her research focuses on the intersection of politics and fiction, particularly analyzing how socio-political dynamics shape literary form. She holds a Master of Studies in Women’s Studies from the University of Oxford and a Licenciatura en lengua y literatura inglesas from Universidad de Chile.
Her current research projects include a monograph on Chilean writer Diamela Eltit’s post-millennium narratives and a film studies project examining representations of women’s socio-political relationships in Latin American cinema. These projects integrate political philosophy, gender studies, and cultural analysis to explore neoliberalism’s cultural impacts and feminist solidarity (sororidad) in artistic mediums.
Teaching responsibilities include convening the 'Beginners Spanish Language' module and co-teaching culture modules like 'The Making of Modern Spain and Latin America'. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
