Denise Tyson

Dr. Denise Tyson serves as Adjunct Faculty and Clinic Supervisor at Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) in the Department of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. With over 10 years of clinical practice as an Acupuncturist and more than 30 years experience in Health Services Administration, she brings a unique dual perspective to integrative healthcare education.

Her educational background includes:

• Doctor of Oriental Medicine from MUIH
• Master of Oriental Medicine from MUIH
• Master of Acupuncture from MUIH
• Master of Business Administration in Health Services Administration and Finance from Howard University
• Bachelor of Science in Biology from American University

Dr. Tyson's research focuses on integrating Eastern medical traditions with contemporary healthcare challenges, particularly examining issues of medical racism and health equity. Her clinical expertise spans acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and integrative health approaches, informed by her extensive background in healthcare finance, planning, and information technology.

Her publication Fighting Medical Racism with Education and Action (2021) demonstrates her commitment to addressing systemic issues in healthcare through education and practical action, bridging traditional healing practices with modern social justice perspectives.

Dr. Tyson actively contributes to the healthcare community through leadership roles including:

As an educator, she teaches Practice Management courses and supervises clinical practice, drawing on her dual expertise to prepare students for successful careers in integrative healthcare.
