Dr. Denise Hileeto is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo's School of Optometry and Vision Science, where she also serves as Admissions Officer. A Bulgarian-trained physician, she brings extensive expertise in pathology to her roles in education and research.
Educational Background:
- MD - Medical degree from Bulgaria
- MSc - Master of Science in Pathology, University of Western Ontario
- Residency - 3-year residency in Anatomic Pathology, Yale University
- Research Fellowship - 1-year fellowship in Pathology, McMaster University
Research Focus: Dr. Hileeto's research centers on ocular pathology and histopathology, with particular emphasis on histopathologic evaluation of eye tissues, biomarker discovery for ocular diseases, and digital pathology applications. Her work encompasses the study of limbal stem cell deficiency, myopia pathophysiology, and ocular surface reconstruction techniques.
Teaching Contributions: Dr. Hileeto teaches several core courses in the optometry program including Histology of Tissues and Organs (OPTOM 108), Immunology (OPTOM 134), and Systemic Disease (OPTOM 215), demonstrating her commitment to integrating pathology knowledge into optometric education.
