Dr. Denise Daley is an Associate Professor in the Division of Respiratory Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. She holds a Tier II Canadian Research Chair in genetic epidemiology of common complex diseases and leads a computational research laboratory focused on understanding the genetic and epigenetic architecture of diseases like asthma, food allergy, and cancer.

Dr. Daley earned her BS in Sociology from the University of Utah in 1989, followed by a BS in Medical Sociology from the same institution in 1999. She completed her PhD in Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Case Western University in 2003.
Her research focuses on the study of complex diseases through the lens of genetic epidemiology, with particular emphasis on gene-gene and gene-environment interactions. Dr. Daley's work has expanded into understanding epigenetic factors that contribute to complex diseases, incorporating both genetic and epigenetic risk factors into risk prediction algorithms for personalized medicine and population genomics. Her lab has completed several genome-wide association and sequencing studies to identify genetic susceptibility to common complex diseases such as asthma, food allergy, allergic disease, healthy aging, and COPD.
The publication record of Dr. Daley demonstrates a strong trajectory in genetic and epigenetic research, with recent work focusing on food allergy genetics, the epigenetic clock in asthma, and the role of microbiome in pancreatic cancer development. Dr. Daley's computational lab consists of a multidisciplinary team including statisticians, software developers, and bioinformatics students. The lab employs cutting-edge statistical, epigenetic, and bioinformatic techniques to understand how inherited genetic variants and environmental exposures interact to modify disease risk. The team is currently working on incorporating genetic and epigenetic risk factors into risk prediction algorithms for use in personalized medicine and population genomics research.
