Denis Lafortune is a Full Professor at the Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the School of Criminology. His research focuses on juvenile delinquency, psychotropic medication use in institutional settings, mental health among incarcerated populations, and intensive supervision measures. He is a member of key research units including the Centre international de criminologie comparée (CICC) and the Centre de recherche de l'Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Montréal (CR-IUSMM).
Research Interests:
- Adolescent offending trajectories, especially sexual aggression
- Psychotropic medication adherence in youth institutions
- Mental health interventions for incarcerated individuals
- Restraint/seclusion practices in residential care
- Mentalization and coping strategies as moderators in trauma
Grants and Projects: Leads major initiatives like PRÉVARM (violent crime prevention) and studies on dual-system youth trajectories. Collaborates on projects involving virtual agents for correctional training and policy evaluation.
Teaching: Instructs courses on criminological interventions, aiding, and juvenile justice analysis. Supervises graduate programs in criminology and justice studies.
