Denis Dugwell is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering. He holds the title of Distinguished Research Fellow and is part of the Energy Engineering Group. His research focuses on combustion, pyrolysis, gasification, and liquefaction of solid fuels, including biomass, wastes, and coal. He also investigates toxic emissions and chemical characterization of coal-derived liquids.
Education:
- BSc(Tech) in Chemical Engineering, University of Sheffield (1962-1965)
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, University of Sheffield (1965-1968)
Before joining academia, he worked in R&D roles at the British Steel Corporation (1974-1978), Air Products Limited (1969-1974), and the Central Electricity Research Laboratory (1968-1969). His current projects and publications are listed on his Imperial College website.
Key research themes include co-combustion of coal with biomass, emissions from waste processing, and solid residue leaching properties. He is actively involved in the Energy Engineering Group and contributes to transdisciplinary initiatives at Imperial College.
