Dekan Apajee serves as Head of the Department of Media, Fashion & Communications within the School of Arts and Creative Industries at the University of East London, where he leads academic practitioners in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programs including Film, Sports Journalism, Media, Animation, and Games. A former BBC broadcast journalist with over 14 years of London news reporting experience, he currently combines this role with freelance multimedia production and broadcast media lecturing while serving on the Ofcom Content Board.
His educational background includes a BEng (Hons) degree and recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). As a certified professional leadership coach, he actively shapes departmental strategy through his dual leadership of curriculum delivery and institutional governance.
Mr. Apajee's professional focus centers on Journalism, Broadcasting and Online Regulation, Digital Production, and Diversity and Inclusion. His commitment to embedding inclusive practices is demonstrated through co-chairing the EDI committee within Arts and Creative Industries, directly influencing departmental policies and student engagement frameworks across all academic programs.
